Recommendation:
During the night 8/9 December 1943, Sgt. Nolan, commanding No.10 Platoon, Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment was holding a forward position on the right flank of the Moro River (Italy) MR3413. The enemy counter attacked during the hours of darkness but despite a heavy and determined attack Sgt. Nolan maintained his position. When dawn came, Sgt. Nolan discovered that the enemy had established a strong point commanding his front. After ensuring that his right flank was secure, Sgt. Nolan with 10 ORs of his platoon put in an attack on the strong point. Advancing under very heavy MG and SA fire the section broke through the enemy defences, forcing them to retreat and captured 1 officer and 25 ORs. Sgt. Nolan then consolidated the position. By his personal example, downright courage and resourcefulness Sgt. Nolan materially assisted in extending the bridgehead.
