Recommendation:
At dawn on the morning of 4 October 1944, "C" Company of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry was detailed to attack and destroy a vital enemy strong point in the railway yards just north of Oorderen in Belgium.
Early in the attack Lieutenant Parker, commanding the leading platoon, was severely wounded in the hip by machine gun fire. In spite of the intense pain from his wound and that fact that he could scarcely walk, with outstanding gallantry and determination he refused to be evacuated. With inspired leadership and complete disregard for his personal safety, he continued to lead his platoon against heavy enemy machine gun and mortar fire on to his objective, a distance of approximately 1,000 yards.
Lieutenant Parker's courage, determination and leadership enabled his platoon to secure their objective against very heavy opposition, and his company captured the vital position as a base for further advances by the regiment and by 4 Canadian Infantry Brigade.
