The following wartime excerpt describes why Fleischmann would receive the Knight’s Cross as follows…
“At the start of March 1942 Major Fleischmann prevented the enemy breakthrough to the Ssamara valley at the decisive hour through his capture of Hills 186.2 and 190. With this he achieved a victory that was of massive importance for the higher commands far beyond his local area. Aside from this he has also outstandingly distinguished himself through his personal bravery in numerous battles, something that has already been commended by the 1. Gebirgs-Division.”
