"On August 6, 1944, the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders attacked the Village of Fontenay de Marmion. Intense enemy fire was encountered when the battalion reached the outskirts of its objective. The commanding officer was killed and Major Gagnon took over command to reorganize the battalion, push forward and continue mopping up. He organized a local attack which resulted in capture of 250 prisoners."
