Lance Corporal Amos, No.1 Platoon, 18th Field Company RCE, landed with his platoon at H hour, 6 June 1944 on beach west of Courseulles-sur-Mer, and commenced clearing beach obstacles to permit the landing of troops and equipment. The beach was under machine gun fire and Lance Corporal Amos received a painful wound on the elbow, partially disabling him. In spite of his injury Lance Corporal Amos continued to operate his team until too weak to continue, when he was evacuated.
This junior NCO displayed great devotion to duty of beach clearing and little regard for his own safety or injury, and set a wonderful example to the troops working about.
