Recommendation:
On 9 December 1943, during hard fighting by the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment establishing their sector of the bridgehead in the area north of the Moro River (Italy) Map Reference 3413, an enemy strong point was located on "B" Company's front. Captain Hammond, Company Commander, and Company Sergeant-Major Yearwood, supported by the fire of a section, rushed this strong point with total disregard of the heavy fire on all sides. Captain Hammond and Company Sergeant-Major Yearwood surprised the enemy and with their Thompson Sub-Machine Guns (Tommy Sub-machine guns) stormed the post. Fourteen of the enemy were casualties and eighteen taken prisoner. By the ferocity and dauntless courage of their attack, the enemy were completely bewildered and the position fell to our troops. This daring action did much to lower enemy morale and to cause confusion in the enemy ranks.
The courage and determination displayed by Company Sergeant-Major Yearwood was an inspiration to all his associates; this action resulted in the strengthening of the bridgehead over the Moro.
