Recommendation:
"Sjt. MacCarthy was in charge of his Section responsible under Major Robert Mills, for engaging the enemy Battery with frontal small arms fire. At a great personal risk Sjt. MacCarthy worked his bren gunners forward, making skilful use of ground, to almost point blank range of the enemy pillbox defences. All machine-guns were silenced and it was largely due to Sjt. MacCarthy'sintelligent handling of his section, and pesonal example, that such excellent results were obtained."
