"Sgt.Mjr. Stockdale took command of the Troop after al his Officers had been killed or had become casualties. Sgt. Stockdale, while leading a bayonet charge, had part of his foot blown away by an enemy stick-bomb. Although in very great pain, Sgt. Stockdale continued to engage the enemy. He set a splendid example, and was an inspiration to his men."
