Recommendation:
For having displayed courage and tact during three consecutive months, making 300, 280 and 280 hours of flying respectively, on the base and also on numerous missions flown by Group 2 of Our Naval Air Service in the Dutch East Indies against the enemy and over enemy held territory. Particularly worth mentioning is having repulsed twice hostile fighter and bomber aircraft on January 1st and February 2nd , 1942 whilst flying important reconnaissance missions and the sinking of a fully laden cargo vessel of 6.000 tons near the Api passage on February 6th, 1942, serving respectively as chief mechanic/air gunner in the lead aircraft; as wireless operator/air gunner and deputy mechanic/air gunner in the follow up aircraft, performing their tasks under extremely difficult conditions; the downing and routing of the mentioned hostile aircraft largely owing to their keen alertness and outstanding ability to operate their machine guns.
