- Rank:
- Flight Sergeant
- Unit:
- No. 158 Squadron, Royal Air Force
- Awarded on:
- May 22nd, 1945
Recommendation:
"Flight Sargeant Budden has now completed 29 operational sorties as a Navigator against some of the most heavily defended targets in Germany and enemy held territory. He has been to Gelsenkirchen, Mainz, Stuttgart, Hanau, Essen, Duisberg, Kiel and many other precision objectives in the battle area. Of his sorties, 23 have been against major targets. Throughout his tour, he has shown himself to be a Navigator of outstanding ability, displaying calm courage and cheerfulness under the most trying conditions. At all times, he has expressed the keenest desire to fly against the enemy and under fire, he has revealed unwavering determination and complete disregard for personal safety. The efficiency of his navigation has been one of the major factors in the impressive list of successes achieved by his crew and his fine airmanship has been one of the most important contributions to the high morale they have maintained. It is recommended that Flight Sargeant Budden’s consistently excellent work, his constant courage on many hazardous sorties and his devotion to duty at all times be recognised by the ward of the Distinguished Flying Medal."
