Biography

Hauptmann August Grauting was killed on July 4th, near Parjota (Sturseni, Hill 211) in Bessarabia as Kompaniechef 10. / Infanterie-Regiment 16 with the rank of Oberleutnant. During the war his remains were buried at Riscani, in Moldavia. His remains are still tthere or have been lost.

“Feldwebel Grauting captured an important bridgehead with his Zug and subsequently expanded it following a tough and bold advance. All the enemy’s attacks against the position (some of which had armoured cars in support) were repulsed by him and his men.”

This action took place in the area around Waalhaven.
