Beween June 22nd 1944 and July 31st, 1944, Leutnant Karl Goldschmitt is being mentioned as Führer Bergezug, schwere Panzer-Abteilung 504, where he is being honored for salvaging Tiger tanks during the retreat between Grosseto and Livorno. By his leadership, of the 27 lost tanks, only 2 were definetely lost to enemy action.

Karl Goldschmidt was recommended for the DKiG in April 1945. It is unknown and not verified that he actually was awarded the DKiG.
