Citation:
"For meritorious achievement while participating in an aerial flight to Lehug airdrome, Cebu, Philippine Islands, on 1 November 1944. Sergeant Stone was the top-turret gunner in the crew of a heavy bomber taking part in an attack on this enemy airdrome when 8 Japanese fighters intercepted. One of the hostile planes made a diving pass at this bomber and Sergeant Sotne oepend fire from 500 yards, scoring hits which caused flames to burst from the cowling of the Japanese aircraft. As the enemy fighter closed into within 200 yards and dived under the left wing of the bomber, Sergeant Stone fired another burst and send the flaming Japanese plane into a tailspin. The courage and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Stone diring this flight reflect great credit on the United States Army AIr Forces."
