Citation:
"For meritorious achievement while participating in an aerial flight off the northern coast of Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 1 February 1945. Major Wilkerson led a squadron of 16 P-51 aircraft on an attack on a Japanese destroyer and destroyer-escort heading toward Appari, Luzon. Flying through intense aint-aircraft fire, he dived to masthead height and made a skip-bombing run over the destroyer. Following his lead, each flight in the squadorn made a strafing and bombing run over the warships and scored 4 direct hits on the destroyer and 2 on the destroyer-escort. Major Wilkerson then led several strafing passes and the P-51's severely damaged the escort vessel and left the destroyer burning and listing. The courage and devotion to duty displayed by Major Wilkerson during this flight reflect great credit on the United States Army Air Froces."
Fourth Air Medal received in the form of a third bronze oak leaf cluster to be worn on the ribbon of the first Air Medal.
