    Hugh Roberts entered service on September 3rd, 1935 with the Royal Navy. He served on H.M.S. Drake, H.M.S. Royal Sovereign, H.M.S. Revenge, H.M.S. Defiance,H.M.S. Tamar, H.M.S. St. Angelo, H.M.S. Afrikander, H.M.S. Edinburgh Coastal, H.M.S. Nile, H.M.S. St. Christopher, H.M.S. Horner, H.M.S. Britannia III (Motorlaunch M.L. 118), H.M.S. Hornet (4) (Motortorpedoboat M.T.B. 245), H.M.S. Mantis (Motortorpedoboat M.T.B. 245), H.M.S. Skirmisher, H.M.S. Lanka (Motorlaunch M.L.I. 182), H.M.S. Highflyer, H.M.S. Perseus (R.F.R., 6th April 1946 until 2nd September 1947) and R.F.R. from 24th April 1949 until 23rd April 1954.
