"P/O Butler has displayed great skill as a navigator in attacks against some of the most heavily defended areas in Germany. On one occasion, during a low-level daylight attack on Augsburg despite heavy damage to his aircraft from anti-aircraft fire, this officer, displaying great determination, persisted and successfully achieved his mission."

This officer has used his knowledge and experience to the full in assisting less experienced navigators. His enthusiasm and unfailing determination make him an invaluable officer to his squadron."
