Biography

William D. Morris was born in Wakonda, South Dakota on August 14th, 1915. He attended school in Wakonda and graduated in 1934.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 7th, 1942 and was attached to Company B, 339th Infantry Regiment, 85th Infantry Division where he finally reached the rank of Sergeant. He was reported missing in action on October 22nd, 1944. However he was taken Prisoner-of-War and was send to STALAG VII A near Moosburg. After his liberation he was honorably discharged on September 14th, 1945.

William Mossison married Delores Bertleson in 1946. The couple lived for a time in Arizona. After his wifes death he remarried to Violett Hermann on July 29th, 1964. Until his retirement in 1973, Morrison worked with the South Dakota Human Services Center.

William D. Morrison passed away in Yankton, South Dakota on March 16th, 2001.
