Here follows an excerpt describing how Janz would receive the Knight’s Cross…

“Obergefreiter Siegfried Janz (Jäger-Regiment 42 (L)) was awarded the Knight’s Cross for showing independent action and decisiveness as a squad leader, which resulted in his recapturing a temporarily lost section of the frontline from the enemy in a counterthrust. Leaving behind a great many dead and wounded, the enemy fled the battlefield back towards their own lines. Through this outstanding deed by Obergefreiter Janz the penetration was cleaned up and the old frontline once again reinstated.”
