The following wartime excerpt describes why Klose received the Knight’s Cross…
“Unteroffizier Friedrich Klose… received the Knight’s Cross on the 20.08.1942 for his achievements in the war against the Soviet Union as a gunner and gun commander of a Pak. During an attack by 50 Bolshevik tanks he withstood the enemy’s fierce fire and proceeded to knock out 13 tanks. This caused the others to turn back, with the result being that he prevented a breakthrough attempt by the Bolsheviks.”
