Biography

Menco Rein Mulder escaped to England and was later dropped as Sergeant-titulitair with the Inlichtingendienst as Radio-Operator in occupied the Netherlands.
Mulder was signed on a coastal vessel in May 1943 and deserted in Sweden in July 1943. There he did intelligence work for the Dutch consulate, but was convicted for violating Swedish neutrality. After part of his sentence was remitted, he left for England in February 1944, where he was trained for the intelligence service. On 27 March 1945 he landed as a parachutist near Loosdrecht.
He was employed in transmitting messages to London, but was arrested by the Germans on 23 April and imprisoned in Utrecht. After interrogation he was found dead in his cell the next morning, possibly as a result of heart failure.
Mulder was posthumously awarded the Bronze Lion.
