The following wartime excerpt describes why Richter received the Knight’s Cross…
“Unteroffizier Emil Richter… received the Knight’s Cross on the 25.08.1942. During the assault against Fort Maxim Gorky II (at Sevastopol) he stormed far ahead of his Kompanie and destroyed 4 Soviet bunkers in addition to their adjacent fieldworks. Although vastly outnumbered by the enemy in this time, his boldness carried the day and produced a decisive offensive success for the eventual capture of the fort.”
