James D. Allan was born in Newark in 1924 and has lived in West Springfield most of his life.
In 1941 he joined the United States Army Air Corps, where he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant Pilot and served 42 missions and 55 sorties with 411th Fighter Squadron, 373rd Fighter Group, 9th Air Force, scoring 1 victory. He was wounded in action and was a Prisoner of War during WWII in STALAG VIa. After his discharge he served in the Army Air Corps Reserve and the Air Force Reserves attaining the rank of Major.
He received his BA from Cornell University in 1947 and his MD from Cornell University Medical School in 1951. He retired in 1991 from Providence Hospital after 32 years as a general surgeon.
James D. Allan died on April 11th, 2012.
