Sydney Ernest Andrews entered service with the RAF as an Airman in September 1936. In 1940 he was stationed with No. 150 Squadron flying the Fairey Battle.
Later he volunteered for Fighter Command, where he was placed on September 2nd, 1940. September 5th he was stationed with No. 32 Squadron at Acklington. September 22nd he transferred to No. 257 Squadron at Martlesham Heath. With this unit he shot down (together with another pilot) an Italian Fiat BR20 during an attack on London. He was later transferred to the Middle East. Flying with No. 3 Aircraft Maintenance Unit, he was killed in an accident on August 9th, 1942.
