Biography

Dina Albertha Brechine (Dinie) Aikema was a teacher and resistance fighter on behalf of Groep De Groot and closely involved with the resistance newspaper De Vonk. On 12 January 1945, she and her partner Gerrit Boekhoven were arrested and locked up in the Scholtenhuis in Groningen. Aikema went on a rampage after being severely beaten. A large part of Groep De Groot was arrested as a result. Aikema was executed in Glimmen by SD member Harm Bouman. Groep De Groot was a resistance group in Groningen around Gerrit Boekhoven (code name De Groot), which originated from the Independent Socialist Party (OSP). Groep De Groot was involved in supplying forged ration cards, identity cards and Ausweise from 1940 onwards.
