Evert Schouten was born in Semarang on September 19th, 1922. As his father he served in the Koninklijk Nederlandsch-Indisch Leger (KNIL). As a Prisoner-of-War he survived the atomic attack on Nagasaki.
After the Second World War he at first served as Korporaal der Militaire Motor Dienst (Corporal with MotorCycle Service) in the KNIL in the Dutch East Indies. After the independence of Indonesia he left for the Netherlands. In the Hague he worked with the Ministry of Defence. After moving to Nijmegen he served as civilian worker with the Dienst Welzijnzorg (Service of Welfare) at the Snijderskazerne (Snijders Military Barracks). Evert Schouten passed away on November 15th, 2012.
Besides his WW2 related decorations he also received the Ereteken voor Orde en Vrede (Medal for Order and Peace) with clasps "1946" en "1947" (Februari 12th, 1949) and the Eremedaille verbonden aan de Orde van Oranje-Nassau in Zilver (Honor Medal to the Order of Orange-Nassau in Silver, Royal Decree Nr. 41, May 15th, 1982).
