- Rank:
- Captain
- Unit:
- 166th (Newfoundland) Field Regiment, 6th South African Armoured Division, South African Army
- Awarded on:
- June 28th, 1945
Recommendation:
"Capt Patton joined this Regt in June 1940 a few weeks after its formation. He has carried out his duties throughout in a highly satisfactory manner and his attention to detail has played a very large part in maintaining the high standard of health in the Regiment.
The very satisfactory reports on the hygiene and anti malarial precautions of the Regiment received from Higher Authority were mainly due to Dr. Patton's keen sense of responsibility in these matters.
His steadiness under shell fire was an example to all,as was instanced on three occaisions when the RHQ area was shelled and casualties suffered. On each occaision the RAP suffered damage from splinters, but Capt Patton carried on with his duties in attending to the wounded and his devotion probably saved lives and most certainly relieved much suffering.
Capt Patton was in November 1944 posted to a hospital appointment having completed over 4 years very commendable service with this Regiment."
