Biography

Rifleman
King's Royal Rifle Corps
2nd Bn.

He was born on 5 February 1926. After attending St Pauls Practising School from August 1937 to September 1940, he took up employment at H H Martyn Ltd, Sunningend. He joined the army aged eighteen serving in the 2nd Battalion, The King’s Royal Rifle Corps as a Rifleman.

While passing through the heavily defended Reichswald Forest, John received wounds from heavy artillery and died on the same day on the 4 March 1945 aged 19. He is buried at the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery. The Headstone reads “At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them”.
