Awarded to the Lance Bombardier F. Ryan,
"who, as gunner, behaved courageously and tactfully whilst manning the gun under dangerous circumstances on board the Dutch m.v. "ONDINA", which, although equipped with only one gun of light calibre, whilst sailing in the Indian Ocean on the 11th November, 1942, accepted battle, together with the accompanying minesweeper of the Royal Indian Navy (British), against two more heavily armed Japanese privateers."
