The following wartime excerpt (dated 30.08.1940) describes why Radwan received the Knight’s Cross…
“Oberstleutnant Oskar Radwan decisively contributed to the successes of his entire Division as a result of the outstanding leadership of his own Bataillon. He did this despite being wounded during the course of friendly operations. His actions had a major influence on the outcome of the fighting along the Rhône river and in the French Alps.”
More specifically than this, it is known that near the end of the Battle of France he and his Bataillon seized a set of bridges near Ruffieux and thereby achieved a success of decisive importance for the continuation of the combat in the Savoy region.
