"For excellent service in the line of his profession as Engineering Officer on a United States ship on May 21, 1944. He started his engines practically single-handed. Answered all signals personally, and got his ship underway to a place of safety. Later, in the face of great personal danger, he aided in fire fightng, and contributed in a large measure to the saving of his ship from fires and explosions. His conduct gives evidence of his great value to the naval service."
