"On 20.3.44 near Pt.7378 SHANGSHAK-PUSHING road.
For efficiency and personal example in the face of enemy. In the initial stages of the attack on a road block he commanded grouped 2" Mortars of the Coy, bringing accurate fire to bear on points of resistance. Later he was put in charge of evacuation of casualties and it was largely owing to his efforts that every man of 25 wounded bas brought to safety before the Coy fell back. During subsequent withdrawal he recced three lay back positions for the coy guiding Pl's into positions wthout assistance, collecting stragglers and generally bringin encouragement and orderliness in difficult circumstances where-ever he went.
His personal command, efficiency and cheerfulness was an example to all."
