"For extraordinary achievement in aerial flight. He participated in 123 combat flying missions during with exposure to enemy ground and aerial fire was probable and expected. During the period from June 11, 1944 to September 9, 1944 he has provided food, clothing, mail, medical supplies and other war material, through means of parachute dropping to our forward elements and to the forward elements of our Indian, British and Chinese allies in the mountains of upper Burma, during tropical and monsoon weather. He has, with courage and fortitude, accomplished his assignment and has brought much credit upon himself and the Military Service of the United States."
