    Biography

Teunis Kooij lived in Amsterdam at Topaasstraat 1-II. He was born on April 29, 1925 as the son of Willem Kooij and Sophia Catharina Elisabeth Wieman (January 5, 1904 Amsterdam). He was unmarried and worked as a boatman/naval school student. Teunis Kooij was a member of the resistance. Together with his friend Carel August Filipson (15 November 1924 Amsterdam) he left by bicycle for liberated areas on January 5, 1945 at 4 a.m. Both were stopped and arrested along the way. He was shot with eight fellow sufferers as reprisal for the liquidation of NSB Circle Leader and acting mayor Marinus Adrianus Simonis (November 14, 1888, Raamsdonkveer - February 17, 1945, Heinenoord). Since Saturday, May 20, 1950, his name has been listed on the Mother memorial on the Blaaksedijk-Krooswijk highway (the current provincial road N217) in Heinenoord.
