    Biography

Lived in Zaandam, Ruysdaelstraat 14. Unmarried. Studied economics. No church. Member of the resistance. He participated in the student resistance against the signing of the declaration of loyalty.
On 21 December 1943 he was arrested on suspicion of illegal radio ownership, aiding persecuted Jewish compatriots and spreading news reports. After several months of detention in the Scheveningen prison (Oranjehotel), he was released on 22 May 1944. During the Dutch famine of 1944/1945, Bais was involved in the provision of food for the Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten (Domestic Armed Forces). On 1 March 1945, during a delivery of toasted bread, he was arrested by the Sipo on his delivery bike. A search of his home followed, as well as a search of the home of his fellow resistance fighter Theodoor van Gogh (5 November 1920 Amsterdam - 8 March 1945 Amsterdam). Anyone who approached Van Gogh's home was arrested. In total, sixteen people were caught that day, nine men and seven women. He was executed by firing squad in retaliation for the attack on SS-Befehlshaber Hanns Albin Rauter on 6 March 1945 at Woeste Hoeve.
