Biography

Lived in Amsterdam, 1e Constantijn Huygensstraat 71-II. Son of Cornelis de Vries (23 July 1887 Amsterdam) and Fijtje Bouw (1 February 1889 Nijkerk). Married Cato Schiebergen (4 January 1909 Amsterdam) on 9 October 1940. Office clerk/bookkeeper. Dutch Reformed.
De Vries voluntarily left for Germany and worked at the AGO Flugzeugwerke in Oschersleben. There he joined the National Socialists. He had previously been a member of the NSB in the Netherlands from 1931-1933. In the meantime, he had changed employers and started working for AEG (Berlin). In February 1944, he did not return from leave, but instead went into hiding with family in Santpoort. From there he worked as an accountant for the company of Johannes Anthonius van der Hijden (27 August 1905 Velsen) who carried out work for the Wehrmacht in the dunes near IJmuiden. De Vries was arrested on 13 February 1945 for administrative fraud to the detriment of the Wehrmacht. He was taken to the detention centre on Weteringschans in Amsterdam for questioning. A few weeks later, he was executed by firing squad along with Van der Hijden and others in reprisal for the attack on SS-Befehlshaber Hanns Albin Rauter on 6 March 1945 near Woeste Hoeve.
