    Biography

    Lived in Groningen, Mauritsstraat 20. Son of driver's mate Kornelis Barkema and Anje Wieringa. Employed in a chrome plant (worker in the nickel plating plant of the Chrome Factory in the Poelestraat).
    Brothers Pieter Teeuwes and Willem Christiaan Lodewijk Barkema were shot by the Germans on 25 September 1944, together with ten other men, in Camp Westerbork. The group of twelve resistance fighters had been arrested earlier that month after betrayal and locked up in the Scholtenhuis in Groningen. In the early morning of 25 September, they were transferred to Camp Westerbork and executed there by a firing squad.
