    Biography

Gerardus Wilhelmus Johannes Jordense was born on 1 July 1911 in Amersfoort. He was the son of Aalbert Jordense (26 November 1876 Amersfoort - 12 December 1960 Amersfoort) and Gerarda Bakker (23 May 1884 Leusden - 22 July 1915 Amersfoort). Married on 25 November 1941 to Johanna van Barreveld (30 October 1917 Amersfoort – 29 May 2006).
He worked as an assistant detective for the Dutch Railways. Gerardus was arrested at the place where he had gone into hiding. The police entered his hiding place with the excuse that they had a message from his wife. He was taken to Camp Vught and executed there on 4 September 1944 during the executions ‘Vught before D-Day’.
Jordense was cremated in the Vught concentration camp.

France posthumously awarded Gerardus a certificate for his noble behaviour in helping prisoners, deportees and escaped prisoners of war. The certificate was issued on 7 November 1947 and personally signed by General De Gaulle.
