Lived in Santpoort (municipality of Velsen), Terrasweg 4. Married (six children). Secretary. Reformed. Member of the resistance under the pseudonym Zwart and belonging to LO-Velsen/Santpoort and the Nederlandse Steunfonds (NSF).
Van Rijswijk was the driving force behind the V-Leger, an illegal organisation, and commander of the Burgerwerk department for IJmuiden-Santpoort-en Velsen Noord. He was also involved in housing people in hiding, distributing illegal literature and helping persecuted Jewish fellow citizens, and later became an officer in the Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten (Domestic Armed Forces). He was arrested on 1 March 1945 at the home of fellow resistance fighter Johannes Pieter Coté (11 September 1907 Helenaveen - 6 April 1945 Limmen) at the address Terras 30 in Santpoort. This happened at a resistance meeting, which the politically unreliable members of the Velser police had found out about. He was transferred to the prison on Weteringschans in Amsterdam via the police headquarters in IJmuiden. Van Rijswijk was shot as reprisal at Rozenoord on Amsteldijk for the attack on SS-Befehlshaber Hanns Albin Johann Baptist Rauter on 6 March 1945 near Woeste Hoeve.
A street in Velsen has been named after him.
