    Biography

Lived in Weiwerd, D 125. Son of Jan Jansen (farmer) and Alida Diewerdina Ritzema. Married Imke Groendijk (27 June 1912 Garrelsweer) on 16 May 1934. Three children were born from this marriage. She remarried Klaas Kampen (farmer). Reformed. Member of the resistance since the end of 1941 under the pseudonym Fokko. Jansen was involved in the OD (Dutch resistance) and the creation of the illegal magazine Vrij Nederland. He was involved in setting up OD departments and organising courier connections between Groningen and the Randstad. He also offered help to people in hiding and participated in espionage within the Delfzijl resistance group Zwaantje. In May 1942, he was forced to go into hiding himself, while the occupying forces appointed a manager to his farm. Jansen, who was also a deacon of the Reformed Church, was arrested on 9 December 1942 during a meeting of Vrij Nederland employees in the Amsterdam Parkhotel as a result of betrayal. During a body search, the Sipo found a revolver with fourteen accompanying bullets in his clothing. This meant that his death sentence was a foregone conclusion. He was transported to the concentration camp via the prison in Scheveningen (the Oranjehotel). In January 1944, he was returned to Scheveningen, where he was sentenced to death. A street in Farmsum has been named after him. Prior to the reburial, a memorial service was held in the Begijnhofkapel at the Begijnhof in Haarlem.
