Lived at Postjesweg 59 in Amsterdam. Son of Johannes Leonardus Heeren and Trijntje Appel. Unmarried. Physical education teacher. No church. Member of the resistance under the pseudonym Rolf.
Initially he operated in an unorganised way. He helped people in hiding, forged identity cards and only joined the KP-Reintje de Vos and the Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten (Internal Armed Forces) in Amsterdam in September 1944. He was the deputy armament officer of the BS. He also supervised arms transports and participated in raids on black marketeers. He was arrested on 27 March 1945 on the instructions of the homeowner of an address where a resistance group was meeting at Händelstraat 1, Amsterdam. Unsuspecting, Heeren entered the building, where Sipo members who were on duty immediately arrested him. He was carrying an FN 7.65 mm pistol in his clothing. On his way to the detention centre on Weteringschans in Amsterdam, he made one last attempt to wrest the weapon from the holster of his Sipo escort, Helmut Ehlscheid.
On 11 April 1945, Heeren was executed by firing squad in Zijpe along with nine others, including six members of his gang, in reprisal for the sabotage of a bridge in Zijpe. Their bodies were temporarily buried in a mass grave in the dunes near Overveen.
His name is on the monument De Opgeheven Hand (The Raised Hand) near Burgerbrug.
