Lived at 172 Amstel in Amsterdam. Son of Theodorus Naarstig and Maria Anna de Witte. Married to Petronella Maria Embertha van Roessel. Accountant/correspondent/shoe shop owner. Roman Catholic. During the May days of 1940, Naarstig was a reserve captain in the 45th Infantry Regiment. Member of the resistance belonging to the Old Front Warrior Legion (LOF), OD, LO, KP and BS.
Among other things, he collected discarded ammunition and weapons in various places where combat operations had taken place in May 1940 and stored them in Amsterdam. In May 1943, he refused to return to German captivity. He helped persecuted Jewish fellow citizens and ex-soldiers by providing them with food, ration cards and money. He was also active on behalf of KP-Volendam. In April 1944, he became district commander of the Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten Strijdend Gedeelte (Internal Forces of the Netherlands Resistance). In this capacity, Naarstig participated in espionage, sabotage, arms transport and the distribution of illegal literature. After the arrest of one of his people in hiding, he was arrested at home by the Sipo on 18 February 1945. As reprisal for the attack on SS-Befehlshaber Hanns Albin Rauter at Woeste Hoeve on 6 March 1945, Naarstig was shot along with 52 others. His obituary stated: ‘He was faithful to his Queen and Fatherland until his death’.
A street in Amsterdam is named after him.
