    Wightman ended the war with 3 biplane victories, these being claimed while flying Gloster Gladiators.
    He remained in the RAF after the war and was promoted to Group Captain on 1 July 1951 and received the AFC.
    He retired on 4 November 1958.

The energy, efficiency and zeal of this officer are noteworthy.
    These qualities combined with his devotion to duty and sound judgement have made him an outstanding pilot and instructor."
