"Cleared 300 mines under enemy fire
Between the Volkhov and Lake Ladoga, Parts of a North German pioneer bataillon had to clear a forest area taken by counterattack. The company commander, a first lieutenant, had at this point only young soldiers, in mine clearing with only little experience. To avoid losses, he sent his soldiers took cover and went himself working to clear the mines.
