He has distinguished himself in connection with hostile actions by courageous and tactful conduct, serving the interests of the Kingdom in the years of the occupation 1940-1945, taking secret agents from the south of the Netherlands across the Hollands Diep to occupied territory and members of Allied aircrews in the opposite direction. He has made the hazardous crossing of the Hollands Diep four times back and forth in the winter months of 1944 – 1945.
