Biography

Before the war Georges Broussine studied medicine. Called to the arms in 1940 he escaped to the UK after the armistice. He was selected to traine as a wireless agent and set up the Burgundy escape line. After the war he became a journalist diplomat.

Lieutenant George Broussine, French Army.
"This officer has been for the past four months chief of a joint Anglo French organisation in France. During this period he has been responsible for sending through to Spain some sixty British or American service personnel. A large proportion of these have been under his organisation from the moment of their arrival in enemy occupied territory. In view of the dangers to which he is constandly exposed, Lieutenant Broussine is recommended for the award of the Military Cross."

In relation to the award the letter to the Military Secretary, The War Office, Whitehall is noteworthy:

22 april, 1951:
Monsieur George Broussine
The above-named, a member of both Paris City Coucil and that of the Seine department, has written to me asking for a copy of the citation under which he was awarded the Military Cross
M. Broussine states that he was recommended for the award in November 1943, and received the medal from Brigadier CROCKETT in August 1944, but has never had a copy of the citation. This he now requires for submission to the Chancery of the Legion d'Honneur.
If such copy can be provided, may it please sen to me for onward transmission.
