Dick/Dik de Geus passed the MO-B French exam at the University of Amsterdam in 1941. After a temporary teaching position in Hilversum, he became a French teacher at the Kennemer Lyceum in Overveen. In addition to his studies, he had a military background. In the late 1920s, he served for some time as a sergeant in the Foreign Legion in North Africa.
De Geus became an active member almost immediately after the founding of the Ordedienst, an illegal organisation that originated in part in military circles. He married in July 1943 and the couple went to live in Amsterdam. In September 1944 he became section commander of the Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten (Domestic Armed Forces) in Amsterdam and first assistant to the district commander.
De Geus was involved in recruiting members, organising the Amsterdam-Centrum section and collecting and transporting weapons. He also provided ration cards, identity cards and food to people in hiding.
As a result of the betrayal of a resistance fighter, extracted through torture, De Geus, his wife and mother-in-law were arrested in their home at five o'clock in the morning on 19 December 1944. During the search of the house, staff papers of the Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten (Internal Forces) and ammunition were found. That same morning, many other members of his group were also arrested in the Pallas student house on Zwanenburgwal.
On 7 January 1945 - his wife Lucie's 22nd birthday - De Geus was shot in Limmen along with nine others in reprisal for the resistance killing a German conscript. The ten bodies were buried in a mass grave in the dunes near Overveen.
