Harm Assies worked as a farm labourer. During the war he was involved in the resistance (LO and OD). On 18 December 1944 Harm was arrested together with his brother Jan ad Veenhuizen. After being transferred to the detention centre in Assen, they were both transported to Neuengamme on 16 January 1945. Harm had camp number 69614, he had Torsperre. The date of death of Harm is uncertain. Three different dates of death are given from three different sources, namely: 16/1-1945; 15/2-1945 and 10/3-1945.
He probably died on March 10, 1945 in Neuengamme due to illness or exhaustion.
A photo of Jan and Harm hangs in the Veenhuizen Museum. Both are also mentioned in the large memorial book of LO/LKP: Het Grote Gebod.
Harm is also commemorated in memorial book number 34 of the Neuengamme Concentration Camp.
