The Knight’s Cross action of Johannes Hintz is described in the following wartime excerpt…
“Oberst Hintz and his Flak-Regiment were assigned to a Heeresgruppe during the march through Luxembourg and Belgium up to the Channel coast. He achieved his assigned tasks with great personal bravery and calm deliberateness. Through his swift recognition of the changing battlefield tasks that presented themselves to him, and his forceful completion of them, Oberst Hintz has a major share in the successes of his Regiment. The military achievements of the regiment, under the leadership of its brave commander, majorly contributed to the great victories in Belgium and northern France as well as in the hard fighting along the Somme, Marne and Seine rivers within the operations area of the Flak-Korps.”
