Awarded the Knight’s Cross for his actions near Gumbinnen. During this battle the 1./Flak-Abteilung 802 was deployed in forward positions while being almost entirely isolated. Nevertheless it gave a good account of itself during its defensive battle on the 21.-22.10.1944, with the fighting being particularly fierce on the night in between.

Over 26 hours, it managed to destroy 21 tanks, 1 armoured car, 5 anti-tank guns and 5 trucks with mounted infantry. 5 more enemy tanks were damaged and 1 anti-tank gun was captured. Enemy losses amounted to about 350 dead. The Batterie’s own losses amounted to 26 officers, NCOs and men. Oberleutnant Hundertmark would be recognized appropriately for this outstanding success.
