Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
Acting Warrant Officer 2nd Class
Unit:
Corps of Royal Engineers
Awarded on:
March 2nd, 1944
Citation:
"During the advance from El Alamein to Medenine, Company Sergeant-Major Woolard, with a Well Boring Section, was given the task of finding water for the leading formatons. The advance took the troops through regions of notorious water scarcity, and in which the enemy had almost always demolished the few known water sources.

In such localities work was continued day and night until water was produced, and that success was everywhere achieved was in large measure due to this Warrant Officer's devotion and resolution to overcome all difficulties.

Company Sergeant-Major Woolard invariably set an example by working with his men, in particular when boring at Nofilia on the 24th December, 1942, in an area of demolished water sources heavily laid with mines."
British Empire Medal (BEM & EGM)
